Who you are buying from

Tropes and Lore is operated by Tropes and Lore, LLC, a limited liability company in North Carolina, United States. “We”, “us”, and “our” mean that company. “You” means the person placing the order.

What a blind date with a book is

This is the term that matters most, so it is near the top rather than buried at the bottom.

Our bundles are mystery parcels. You choose a bundle by its tropes, its genre, and its spice level. You do not choose the title, and we do not tell you what it is before it arrives. That is the product rather than a limitation of it. We pick each book in good faith to match the bundle you bought, but no specific book, author, edition, or format is promised.

Because we cannot know what is already on your shelves, a bundle may occasionally hold a book you own. You can add Been There, Read That Protection to any bundle or box in your cart, or ask for it at a market stall, to cover exactly that, and our refund policy says how exchanges work with or without it.

Spice ratings

We sell romance and romantasy. Where a bundle carries a spice rating, that rating is our indication of how steamy its story is. If you would rather keep things sweet, pick a bundle rated accordingly, or write to us before you order and we will help.

You must be old enough to enter into a contract where you live.

Orders

Placing an order is an offer to buy. We accept it when we dispatch your parcel, and that is the moment the contract is formed.

We may decline or cancel an order and refund you in full, for instance if an item turns out to be out of stock, if a price was listed in error, or if we cannot ship to your address.

Prices and payment

All prices are in US dollars. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay, and it is the one that governs, including where a price shown elsewhere on the site has gone stale.

Prices on the site do not include sales tax. Where tax applies, it is worked out from your shipping address and added at checkout, so you see the full amount before you confirm.

Payment is taken by Stripe. We do not handle or store your card details.

Shipping

We ship within the United States only. Rates, timings, and what happens when a parcel goes astray are set out in our shipping policy, which forms part of these terms.

Returns and refunds

Our refund policy forms part of these terms. In short: you can cancel for a full refund at any time before your parcel is dispatched; once it is on its way we cannot take it back for a change of mind, though you can exchange a book within 14 days of your parcel arriving, or of buying it from us at a market; and we will put right anything that arrives damaged, is lost in the post, or is not what you ordered.

This site

The text, photographs, and design of this site belong to us. The books we sell belong to their authors and publishers, and nothing here gives you any rights in them beyond owning the copy you bought.

Please do not use this site to break the law, to interfere with how it runs, or to extract its contents automatically at a scale that affects other customers.

Limits

We provide this site and our bundles as they are. So far as the law allows, we give no warranties beyond those that cannot be excluded, and our total liability for any order is limited to what you paid for that order.

Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. You may have rights under consumer law that these terms do not affect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, United States, and any dispute belongs in the courts of that state.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version that applies to your order is the one published when you placed it.
